Five princesses named for AB festival

winchester — The selection of princesses to serve in the court of Queen Shenandoah LXXXVI for the 2013 Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival has been announced by festival officials.
Alexandra DeWindt Hoxton
She attends James Madison University, where she is a freshman majoring in psychology. Alexandra is the daughter of Kimberly and Frederick Hoxton of Winchester and the granddaughter of Peggy and Jimmy Dix of Winchester and Connie and Arch Hoxton of Shepherdstown, W.Va. She is a graduate of Handley High School, where she was a varsity cheerleader, a member of the National Honor Society and a Handley Scholar. She is a member of Opequon Presbyterian Church. At JMU, she is a member of Tri Delta sorority, Gamma Tau Chapter.
CaLoni Mori Vance
She attends the University of Virginia, where she is a third-year student majoring in history and psychology. CaLoni is the daughter of Marcella and Roger Vance of Winchester and the granddaughter of Hideko Washington of Odenton, Md., and the late Harold Washington, and Arvella Vance of Seneca Rocks, W.Va., and Harvey Vance of Franklin, W.Va. She is a graduate of Handley High School. She is a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church. At U.Va., she is director of recruitment records for Delta Gamma sorority, an Inter-Sorority Council Judiciary Board representative and a member of the Honor Board for all sororities.
MacKenzie Morgan Witt
She attends Shenandoah University, where she is a sophomore majoring in nursing. MacKenzie is the daughter of Pamela and the Rev. David Witt of Winchester and the granddaughter of Ethel and the Rev. Karl Tangeman and Janice Witt, all of Winchester, and Beverly and William Witt of Hudson, Wis. She is a graduate of Millbrook High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She received a Northwestern District All-Academic Award and was a varsity soccer player for four years. She received All-District honors in her senior year. She is a member of the SU women’s soccer team, which won the Division III USA South Conference championship. She is also an assistant coach for Millbrook’s varsity soccer team
Abigail Leigh Youmans
She attends Virginia Tech, where she is a sophomore majoring in accounting and information systems. Abigail is the daughter of Midge and Tim Youmans of Winchester, the granddaughter of Lois and Fred Toombs of Seneca Castle, N.Y., and Sam Youmans of Voorheesville, N.Y., and the late Kay Youmans. She is a graduate of Handley High School, where she was vice president of the National Honor Society and a Handley Scholar. She is a member of Beta Alpha Psi, National Society of Collegiate Scholars and was named to the Pamplin dean’s list at VT.
Amy Marie Youmans
She attends Slippery Rock University, where she is a sophomore majoring in public health, pre-physical therapy. Amy is the daughter of Midge and Tim Youmans of Winchester and the granddaughter of Lois and Fred Toombs of Seneca Castle, N.Y., and Sam Youmans of Voorheesville, N.Y., and the late Kay Youmans. She is a graduate of Handley High School, where she was class president and a three-sport varsity athlete. She lettered all four years on the cross country, indoor track and outdoor track teams and was captain of the cross country team. She received the Maddex-Peery Athlete Academic Award and was accepted for Blue Key and Gold Key National Honor Society. At SRU, she is on the dean’s list and a scholar- athlete in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in cross country and track.

The princesses will accompany Queen Shenandoah LXXXVI and her court to all functions throughout the 86th festival, scheduled for April 26-May 5. They will participate in the Coronation ceremony May 3 and ride on the royal float in the Grand Feature Parade May 4.
