WINCHESTER — Lord Fairfax was recently recognized as the community college serving the highest number of employers in the state through its Office of Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education (WSCE).

LFCC was recognized by the 23-school Virginia Community College System.

The LFCC program provides classes, workshops and specialized training opportunities focusing on job skills and professional development. Instructors are industry professionals who work in the field and provide on-site training programs to local employers in such areas as leadership, customer service and basic computer skills.

According to a school press release, LFCC’s program served 1,273 employers in fiscal year 2012, up 23.6 percent from 2011. It states that 11,025 employers were served throughout the state in FY12, with LFCC’s program being responsible for 11.5 percent of those.

“We have a workforce here that engages with the community college to increase employees’ skills,” said Jeanian Clark, vice president of the Workforce program at LFCC.

“The team in the Workforce Solutions is proactive and reaches out to employers,” she added. “We want to see your company stay here and grow.”

LFCC serves Winchester Frederick, Clarke, Fauquier, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah and Warren counties.

Clark credits the increase in number of employers served by the school in the past year to the college’s aggressive pursuit of employer-incentive grant money that reduces the rate for employers when they work through LFCC’s Workforce Solutions.

The grant that LFCC received totaled more than $100,000, one of the highest amounts of all 23 colleges.
