WINCHESTER — Spring is just around the corner, which means home improvement projects and yard chores are also approaching.
To meet the anticipated demand for supplies, local Home Depot and Lowe’s outlets have begun to ramp up hiring — with plans to add hundreds of seasonal workers.
The Winchester Home Depot just off of South Pleasant Valley Road plans to add 40 to 50 seasonal employees in the next few weeks, company spokeswoman Katherine Ellison wrote in an email.
The Home Depot distribution center east of Stephens City off Front Royal Pike (U.S. 522) is also hiring 80 seasonal workers, Ellison wrote.
About half of the company’s seasonal hires in 2011 and 2012 transitioned into regular positions, she added.
Local Lowe’s stores are also hiring.
Jody Widener, store manager at Rutherford Crossing, said the most recent estimate calls for the hiring of 40 to 45 seasonal employees.
“Quite a few” of the seasonal spots turn into permanent positions, he added.
The Lowe’s at 2200 S. Pleasant Valley Road is hiring for nearly every position at the store, said assistant manager Ben Campbell.
The total number will depend on the trajectory of sales in the upcoming months, he said.
Previous experience is not required as both stores and the Home Depot distribution center provide training for positions.
Those interested in positions at Home Depot can apply at careers.homedepot.com.
Lowe’s applications can be submitted at careers.lowes.com.
The stores also accept walk-in applications.
