Local murder case delayed until April

WINCHESTER — The case of a city woman charged with second-degree murder was delayed Friday.
Kimberly Mercer, 49, appeared for a motions hearing in Winchester Circuit Court with attorney David Hensley.
The case was continued until 9 a.m. April 8.
Mercer — who is being held without bond in the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center — is charged with seconddegree murder in the July 22 overdose death of Richard Kuit, 50.
She is also charged with distribution of heroin.
Kuit was found dead in Mercer’s room at America’s Best Value Inn at 1347 Berryville Ave.
According to a search warrant filed in Circuit Court, Mercer said she called 911 after waking up and finding Kuit — who was staying in a room next to hers — deceased in her bed.
She told a city police detective that Kuit had been drunk and then unconscious in her room on the previous night.
Police said an investigation determined that Kuit overdosed on heroin and that Mercer supplied him with the drug that led to his death.
