WINCHESTER — Things allegedly got out of hand for one local man on St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
Terence Williams, 26, of Stephens City, was arrested in the city early Sunday morning for assault and battery on a police officer, public intoxication, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.
Police responded just after 1 a.m. to Sweet Caroline’s at 29 W. Cork St. after observing Williams — who appeared to be intoxicated — yelling obscenities and stumbling, according to Sgt. Frank Myrtle of the Winchester Police Department.
When officers tried to talk with Williams, he allegedly took off running.
Officers quickly caught up with him, and, while attempting to place him under arrest, Williams tensed up and tried to flee again, Myrtle said.
He then swung his left arm at an officer’s head, but lost his balance and fell down some stairs.
Police attempted to arrest him again, but not before he swung one more time at an officer, Myrtle said.
During a search of Williams, police found a schedule II narcotic.
He was taken to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center but later posted bond, according to a jail official.
