WINCHESTER — One of the nation’s largest barbecue franchises is set to open in mid-March in the city.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit — a Texas-based chain with more than 270 locations in the United States — will be located at 2524 S. Pleasant Valley Road, according to a media release. It will occupy the former Quiznos site, near Cold Stone Creamery.

Local owner Maricela Messner — a Texas native — said the restaurant will bring 10 to 15 jobs to the area.

Known for its authenticity, innovation and barbecue sauce, Dickey’s will serve “fall-off-the-bone” tender pork ribs and brisket hot off the grill.

Messner said the restaurant will serve lunch and dinner.

Customers can also expect to see pulled pork, ham, polish sausage, turkey breast and chicken, with an extensive array of homestyle sides — from jalapeno beans to macaroni and cheese, according to the chain’s website.

Buttery rolls are served with every meal, along with complimentary ice cream and dill pickles.

Messner said the restaurant, which has a fast casual atmosphere, will be focused on the consumer experience and customer service.

“The Dickey’s franchise fits into the culture of Winchester,” she said. “I hope people will think of Dickey’s Barbecue as a really friendly group of folks that are passionate about serving outstanding barbecue.”

Messner said renovation of the location the restaurant will occupy is expected to take about four weeks, which will be followed by seven days of training.

Employee applications will be available at the restaurant during construction.
