Col. John Mosby’s battles on U.S. 50 are remembered
Col. John S. Mosby and his raiders spent much of the Civil War disrupting federal troops and supply lines in northern Virginia, including Clarke County. This portrait is from early 1865, moments after a standing ovation from the Virginia General Assembly, and about five weeks after he was short in the abdomen, his third time war wounding.
