Cheers for Child Charity
Sportsplex Hosts Annual Golf Tournament For Prevention Of Child Abuse

In Behind The Glass, Sportsplex Newsletter, we have featured a number of articles over the past few months about the importance of giving back to the community and this issue is no exception. Sportsplex will host is 5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the Winchester Exchange Child-Parent Center. In the four years prior to this years event, Sportsplex has helped raise over $16,000 for the Exchange Club's worthy cause.
Last year's event was a huge success, as a record number of teams entered to play for the prizes that were valued at over $10,000. Players won great items such as pull over jackets, free rounds of golf, and gift certificates from local businesses in some of the competitions held at the course. These included longest drive, closest to the pin, and lowest scoring team. Despite the overcast weather, the teams enjoyed a nice outdoor lunch, which was included in the entry fee.
This years event is being held at Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Course, rated the #1 Best Value Course in 2007 by Pro's 'N Hackers Magazine. The 18-hole course is located in Front Royal, Virginia. The hilly terrain provides an excellent view of the Blue Ridge Mountains, as well as a challenging course for golfers to tackle. The course provides full service amenities, including PGA Professional Mike Ahrnsback lessons and clinics, an indoor clubhouse, stocked pro shop, and a bar and grill that overlooks the course. If these were not enough, the course also touts a full-service conference hotel with breathtaking architecture, as it is built into the hillside facing the course. There you can take advantage of the hotel's restaurant, Houlihans Restaurant + Bar, which features American fare with a twist of contemporary flavors. You can visit the course online at www.blueridgeshadows.com to check into all of their amenities. Please join us as we celebrate our 5th Annual event by registering online at www.sportsplex.us/sp_charitygolf.php See you at the course!

Building Morale Helps Productivity
Groups and Companies Come Together For Days Of Fun

School yard games are still fun for adults and companies are beginning to take advantage of the nostalgia for kickball and dodgeball by hosting team building events. Companies are beginning to see the financial return in gathering together to play sports. Sportsplex has seen an increased interest in groups wanting experiences geared toward team bonding, something Sportsplex has never fully pursued. The reason for the influx? Sportsplex General Manager Guy Curtis believes that "businesses are seeing an increase in productivity as a result of out of office events and can get a company's message across easier in a relaxed and fun-filled environment."
In tougher economic times like these, it is important to retain your current employees and keep them as productive as possible. Little touches to show your front line personnel that you care can return fantastic rewards on the back end. If a group outing is not within your budget, take advantage of less expensive ideas: handwritten notes, a firm handshake with a smile, or a quick e-mail to say thanks.
Special rates are available if you and your company are interested in creating a new sports experience for your employees. Sportsplex's website has additional information on options you can choose from to get your team motivated. Contact Sportsplex General Manager Guy Curtis for more information.
