General American Impressionism Lecture
Sunday, June 23 • 2 p.m. Scott Schweigert, curator of art and civilization at the Reading Public Museum, will discuss the emergence of artists’ colonies during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in the fascinating lecture, “American Impressionism: The View from the Artists’ Colonies.” Schweigert will detail the effect that these colonies had on artists’ creativity, including the ability to collaborate, teach, and experiment in their work. The artists’ colonies of Cos Cob and Old Lyme in Connecticut; Cape Cod, Cape Ann, and Rockport in Massachusetts; and New Hope in Pennsylvania, among others, will be discussed. Before or after the lecture, visit the MSV Changing Exhibitions Gallery to tour American Impressionism: The Lure of the Artists’ Colony, a traveling exhibition from the Reading Public Museum. Lecture seating is limited; tickets will be available beginning at 10 a.m. Free to MSV Members; all others: $10, $8 youth/senior (includes gallery/garden admission).
