Winchester — The first tryout for the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival’s newest event — a season-long talent search, Apple Blossom’s Got Talent! — takes place at 7 p.m. Thursday.
There will be free-to-the-public tryouts and semifinals at the Bright Box Theater, 15 N. Loudoun St., leading up to the finals during the festival in May.
This is a free event, but tickets must be reserved through the theater. Snow date for this week’s event is Feb. 20.
Other tryouts are scheduled for March 13 and April 3. The events will begin at 7 p.m. and contestants are requested to report at 6 p.m.
There will be a maximum of 30 contestants at each of the three tryouts. Judges will pick 10 semifinalists at each.
On April 17, the 30 semifinalists will perform at the Bright Box Theater, and judges will choose 12 finalists to perform May 3 at the finals of Apple Blossom’s Got Talent! in the Sprint Festival Event Tent.
Online registration is available at thebloom.com/apple-blossoms-got-talent-registration. The champion of this talent search will win a cash prize of $5,000 plus other gifts and perks.
Exact times, locations, rules, entry forms, fees and a link to the Bright Box Theater’s online box office are available at thebloom.com.
Contestants need to provide a DVD or a video link of some type so that their talent may be auditioned remotely before each show. There is a $10 non-refundable fee to apply.
Each contestant will be given two minutes to perform. There are restrictions listed in the official rules, but, in general any type of talent can be displayed within the confines of the space and time provided. This is not for singers only.
