WINCHESTER — Singers, dancers and a magician graced the stage Wednesday at the Bright Box Theater in Winchester for the first auditions of the annual 2016 Car Credit Nation Apple Blossom’s Got Talent! contest, according to a festival press release Thursday.
The show was presented by Pest Management Services Inc.
Ten winners were selected from a field of 25 contestants. They are Malachi Strother, Ryan Jewell, Becca Balcom, Jeyhan Turker, Ryan Phillips, Melanie Miller, Angelica Bullock, Kyle Lambdin, Natalie Spaid and the trio of Emily Kresky, Ryan Garst and Walker Turner.
Performing for a capacity crowd, the contestants were judged by a panel made up of Lars Henriksen, a bass player and member of a blues band; Mario Orsini, illusionist who has judged the contest in past years; and Gwen Pangle, a singer who has performed in many theatrical productions. Master of ceremonies was Chuck Atkinson, who kept the program moving along.
Theresa Gaines, chairwoman of the event — which is part of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival to be held April 22 to May 1 — reminds the public that there are two more auditions Feb. 10 and March 9, and there is still time to register for both.
Contestants who win at the three auditions will compete in the semi-finals on April 6, and winners from that event will compete in the finals on April 27. The finals will be held during the 89th festival, which has a theme of Unforgettable!
All contests will begin at 7 p.m. at the Bright Box in downtown Winchester. Prizes awarded at the final event include first place, $5,000; second place, $1,500, and third place, $500.
Rules and guidelines are posted on the festival’s web site, thebloom.com. Click on “SABF info” and then on the word “forms.” A sample of talent and background music must be included with the application. A URL or MP3 is needed for the application process.
Audience tickets for the auditions are $10 in the downstairs theater and $5 for the upstairs location.
