Former Gander building is sold

KERNSTOWN — The former site of Gander Mountain at 251 Commonwealth Court in Frederick County has been sold to a Miami-based real estate company for $4.2 million.

The local location closed in August after the completion of a liquidation sale that began in May 2017. The 54,425-square-foot building was built in 2006 on a 5.93-acre lot.

Dallas-based Rainer Properties sold the property to LNR Partners LLC on April 23, according to county tax records. The land has an assessed value of $5,932,700.

LNR Partners operates as a real estate investment, finance and management company. The company acquires, develops, manages and sells commercial and multifamily residential real estate.

LNR Partners LLC is a subsidiary of Starwood Property Trust, Inc — a private investment firm with a primary focus on global real estate. Representatives for the company did not return calls seeking comment on what will be done with the property.

Gander Mountain was the nation’s largest chain of outdoors specialty stores. In April 2017, Camping World Holdings Inc., a network of RV-centric retail locations, announced it had bought “certain assets” of Gander Mountain in a bankruptcy acquisition.

In May 2017, Gander Mountain announced the company would go out of business and close all of its 126 locations.

Camping World announced Jan. 4 a list of 69 former Gander stores that will reopen under the new Gander Outdoors branding. The Frederick County store was not on the list.
