Diana K. Foley Diana Kay Teets Foley, age 73, of Martinsburg, WV, died November 20, 2022 in Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Dr. Foley was born October 31, 1949, in Winchester Memorial Hospital, the daughter of the late Marjorie Huffman Teets and Harold P. Teets. She was a 1967 graduate of James Wood High School and a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hagerstown, MD.
Dr. Foley graduated from the Alexandria Hospital School of Nursing in 1970, from Lord Fairfax Community College in 1976; received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Radford University in 1979; obtained her Master of Science in Nursing from University of Virginia in 1981; and her Doctor of Education from Wilmington University in 1998.
She had practiced nursing at Shawnee Springs and Hillcrest nursing homes, Winchester Memorial Hospital, Warren Memorial Hospital, Radford Memorial Hospital, Martha Jefferson Hospital, Blue Ridge Sanitarium, Jefferson Memorial Hospital, City Hospital, and Western State Hospital. In 1981 she began her career as a nurse educator, and taught nursing at Shepherd University, Marian College (Indianapolis, IN), the University of Virginia, and Wilmington University in Delaware. She was Chair, the Division of Health Sciences and Director of Nursing at Hagerstown Community College, and recently, Professor of Nursing at Mountain State University Martinsburg. Currently she was teaching for West Virginia Wesleyan and Bluefield University. Over the course of her career, she taught over 1800 nursing students.
Dr. Foley is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years, John Philip Foley, originally from Paris, Illinois; her sister, Melanie Stewart of Winchester, and a number of cousins and nieces and nephews. Her parents preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. Her body has been donated to Anatomy Gift Registry. Memorials may be made to animal rights organizations, local hospices, or WV Wesleyan School of Nursing.
