Geraldine B. Nienstedt

Geraldine B. Nienstedt, 93, of Winchester, VA, died Monday, June 10, 2019, at Spring Arbor Memory Care in Winchester, surrounded by her family.

Gerry was born in 1925 in Tuxedo, NY, the daughter of the late Luke and Bertha Biddick. She was a gracious, kind and loving person who will be missed by all. In 1937 she lived in Norway for six months with her mother and grandfather. Along with her parents, she traveled by train across the United States and lived at the Mission Inn in Riverside, CA while her father was on an extended business trip. After a year attending Syracuse University during WWII, Gerry worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Later she worked in a medical doctor’s office before eventually staying home to care for her three boys. She and her late husband, Christian, enjoyed traveling through the years, visiting many National Parks, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico and England. Gerry was an avid golfer in her day. She enjoyed playing golf with her ladies group and with her husband on weekends. Gerry was a member of Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church and was active in the church and enjoyed projects with her women’s church group.

Her husband, Christian Nienstedt, whom she married on July 10, 1948 in Minisink, NY, preceded her in death in 2003. They shared 55 years of marriage.

Surviving are three sons, Mark Nienstedt and wife, Nancy of Hilton Head Island, SC; Rev. William Nienstedt and wife, Kristy of Chambersburg, PA; and Jeffrey Nienstedt and wife, Marla of Martinsburg, WV; grandchildren, Luke, Corey, Katarina and Samuel.

Along with her parents and her husband, Gerry was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Mousin and Bessie Moore.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 6th, at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2077 N. Frederick Pike, Winchester, VA with Reverend David Young officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gerry’s memory to Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2077 N. Frederick Pike, Winchester, VA 22603 or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601.
