Millbrook High School baseball player Haden Madagan and football player Jacob Young both signed letters of intent to play their respective sports at Shenandoah University in ceremonies at the school on Thursday.
Madagan hit .400 for the Pioneers this past season, scoring 16 runs and driving in 15 to earn Class 4 Northwestern District first-team honors. He was also 3-1 on the mound with a 3.57 ERA. He struck out 16 in 15.2 innings. The Hornets (35-15) won their second straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament this year to earn their 10th NCAA Tournament berth in 11 seasons.
Young, a linebacker, was second on the Pioneers and sixth in the area with 93 tackles last fall. He also was second on the team and tied for seventh in the area with 3.5 sacks. He was a Winchester Star honorable mention selection. SU went 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the ODAC last year.
Sherando’s Roberts signs with Lynchburg
Sherando sprints and jumps standout Kaitlyn Roberts signed to compete for NCAA Division III University of Lynchburg on Thursday.
Heading into the Class 4 state meet this weekend, Roberts ranked third in the area in the 400 meters (1:01.31) and third in the triple jump (35-0.5). During this year’s postseason she’s placed first in the 400, fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the 200 at the Class 4 Northwestern District meet and seventh in the 200 at the Region 4C meet. She’s entered in the 4x100 for the state meet.
Lynchburg won both the ODAC indoor and outdoor championships this year.
