Millbrook High School 17-year-old junior
Sport: Softball. Position: Shortstop
Parents: Tina and Marc Badnek
What do you love about softball: I love the thrill of the game. I love the girls as well. You get a lot of close relationships and friendships. I really like it.
Most memorable moment in softball: My first home run. I didn’t even know I hit it. I was so excited. It was actually for travel. I was playing for the Front Royal Fire.
Most embarrassing moment in softball: I have a lot of those. One time, I hit a pop fly and I thought it was foul, but it actually wasn’t. I didn’t run at all, so I stayed at home and I got out.
Three people you can have dinner with, dead or alive: Abraham Lincoln, because he’s like super inspiring and I’d like to ask him a bunch of questions about his presidency. [Softball player] Jenny Finch, I’d like to ask her about all of her experiences and how she became so good. Barack Obama, I want to know about his experience as being the first African-American president. I think that would be kind of neat and the struggles he went through to get that kind of position.
What’s the best athletic advice you’ve ever received: No matter how frustrated you get, always keep working. Maybe take a timeout, but always always keep your head in the game. Don’t get too frustrated or you will mess up. (From former Millbrook coach Mandee Madden)
If you could go on a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go: I would like to go to Paris and France. I would love to see the Eiffel Tower and I think French is such a beautiful language. I would like to see the sights around there.
Favorite teacher: Miss [Ashton] Strosnider. She was my 10th-grade history teacher. I never liked history before her. She made the class so much fun and entertaining. History is actually one of my favorite subjects now because of her.
Favorite athlete: Jenny Finch
Favorite team: Washington Nationals
Favorite movie: “The Goonies”
Favorite TV show: “Criminal Minds”
Favorite song: “Rumor” by Lee Brice
Favorite food: Ribs. Outback is good, but I like homemade more.
Plans after high school: I’d like go to college. Most likely I will go to Virginia Tech, but I’m not 100 percent positive on that. I want to study either veterinary science or wildlife, something with animals. I’ve always been interested in this. I love my dogs and I’ve always enjoyed helping animals. That’s always been on my mind, ever since I was little.
