In beating Millbrook 21-13 last Friday, Handley ended a four-game losing streak against the Pioneers, who were atop of the Class 4 Northwestern District football standings.
Anyone coming back to Berryville for the Clarke County football team’s homecoming game tonight won’t be able to see what they’ve enjoyed immensely for the last three seasons.
To say that the James Wood football team has reached the meat of the Class 4 Northwestern District football season may be a little bit of an understatement.

There’s plenty riding on tonight’s Class 4 Northwestern District football clash between Handley and Millbrook.
STEPHENS CITY — In beating Harrisonburg 52-7 on the road last week, Sherando running back Darius Lane noted that there wasn’t an energetic atmosphere at the stadium, but the Warriors did well to generate their own energy after giving up the opening touchdown.
Each of the James Wood football team’s first four games were decided early, so Colonels coach Ryan Morgan liked what he saw from his team in overcoming a 32-28 deficit with five minutes left to win 42-32 last week against Independence.
While the Bull District football season is just getting started, some games have a little extra riding on them.

You would think that nearing the midpoint of the high school football season that there wouldn’t be too many mysteries left about an opponent.
Following the Millbrook football team’s first win over Sherando in three years last Friday, the players said they’d enjoy the win that night, but would turn their attention to Fauquier on Saturday.
STEPHENS CITY — Sherando is in an unusual situation.
