James Wood graduate and Quinnipiac University freshman pitcher Lauren King was named to the All-Rookie softball team for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference last month.

King pitched in 40 games and made 15 starts for Quinnipiac, which is located in Hamden, Conn. In 127.2 innings, King went 8-8 with a 2.52 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, a .220 batting average against, and had 60 strikeouts. King had the fifth-best ERA in the 11-team MAAC and threw two shutouts.

The Bobcats went 17-33 overall and 8-12 in conference play to place eighth in the MAAC this season.


Berkeley (W.Va.) 22, Winchester 5

WINCHESTER — Berkeley Post 14 unloaded for 19 hits against six Winchester Post 21 pitchers in a romp at R. Charles Hott Field on Tuesday.

Trailing 3-1, Berkeley (3-0) scored seven times in the fourth inning. Post 21 (0-2) closed within 7-5 after five, but Berkeley scored three times in the sixth and 11 times in the seventh.

Hunter Coe was a one-man wrecking crew for Berkeley, going 5-for-5 with a pair of three-run homers and seven RBIs.

Leaders — Post 21: Michael Usa 1-3 (double), 2 runs; Chandler Ballenger 2-4 (homer), 2 RBIs. Berkeley Post 14: Coe 5-5 (2 home runs, double), 3 runs, 7 RBIs; Jameson Matthew 3-4 (homer), 3 runs, 4 RBIs.
