Athlete Spotlight: Sherando track & field athlete Eldon Agard

Sherando track & field athlete Eldon Agard

Sherando High School 17-year-old junior

Sport: Track & Field. Main events: 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, triple jump, long jump

Parents: Aldo and Wady Agard

Hometown: Miami, Fla. (moved to Stephens City prior to eighth grade)

What do you love about track: The competition. You never know what's going to happen, especially with hurdles.

Most memorable moment in track: The most memorable thing is being with my teammates. Especially Darius Lane pushing me. I wasn't expecting anyone to really push me the way that he has this season.

Most embarrassing moment in track: At regionals, in the 300-meter hurdles, for the last hurdle I didn't think I was going to make it, so I kicked it down. It was pretty funny.

Three people you can have dinner with, dead or alive: [NCAA 110 hurdles record holder] Grant Holloway; I enjoy how I have something in common with him. We both start off for the 110 hurdles with our left foot in front and we also go over the hurdles with the same left foot. [Comedian] Seth Rogen; I like his laugh. And Antonio Brown; he's just a great athlete, and I'd like to see what makes him so good and so determined.

What’s the best athletic advice you’ve ever received: Just try your best and have fun with it. I've heard that from a number of people.

If you could go on a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go: Croatia. I've heard it's nice. The beaches look nice.

Favorite teacher: Ms. [Jennifer] McKannan. I had her for AP U.S. History. She knows a lot about history. Very specific details. It just amazes me how much she knows.

Favorite athlete: Grant Holloway

Favorite team: Pittsburgh Steelers

Favorite movie: "Pulp Fiction"

Favorite TV show: “The Society”

Favorite food: Pasta. Spaghetti, baked ziti.

Plans after high school: I want to focus on a career related to computers, probably cybersecurity or computer networking. Those things are the future, so I'd like to get involved with that.
