WINCHESTER — While all five members of the Clarke County School Board are running uncontested in the Nov. 5 election, there are four contested races for the Frederick County School Board.

The filing deadline for candidates was Tuesday.

Four of seven seats on the Frederick school board are up for election this fall, and only one incumbent is seeking re-election.

Frederick’s Back Creek District representative Kali Klubertanz told The Star in an email that she will not seek another term on the board. Klubertanz did not say why she isn’t running.

The Frederick school board’s at-large seat is being vacated by John Lamanna, the current board chairman, because he is running for chairman of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors. And Opequon District representative Seth Thatcher is vacating his seat that’s up for re-election because he is running uncontested for Frederick County Commissioner of the Revenue.

Gainesboro District representative Michael Lake is seeking another four-year term. He is being challenged by Susan Shick, an administrative assistant at Barrett Machine Inc.
